                                                                   Senior People & Culture Business Partner

PUC Services Inc. (PUC) operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. 

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a team member to support the People & Culture Department.   The ideal candidate will be a confident, motivated, and customer-centric individual with a strong understanding of the human resources field.   

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide guidance and education to the leadership team in all aspects of human resources, employment law, corporate policy and human resource best practices.
  • Provide training and support to the leadership team on corporate performance programs.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection process providing guidance and support to the leadership team.
  • Provide interpretation, advise and best practices on all labour relations matter.
  • Oversite of the disability management program, including short term disability, long term disability, return to work plans, and WSIB claims.
  • Coordinate, and implement leadership development and health and safety corporate training.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of employee relations programs.
  • Provide an innovative and customer-centric approach in all interactions with internal and external customers.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary education, degree or diploma, in Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience in the Human Resources field, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Professional designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/CHRL) is an asset.  Equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Experience in a unionized work environment with multiple collective agreements.
  • Knowledge of labour/employment legislation.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in recruitment, training, disability management administration and absentee management.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and human resource information systems (HRIS) maintenance.
  • Experience assessing and implementing system and process improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and implementation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and maintain confidentiality while working with highly sensitive documents and information.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong team ethics while also highly self-motivated and self -directed.
