PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the Environmental Centre Operator, your duties will include:

  • Maintain and operate all process control, SCADA and other related equipment required for the operation of the Wastewater Plants, the related pumping stations, collection system and sewer overflow tanks in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Maintain, repair and/or replace equipment.
  • Monitor, document and adjust all parameters of the system on SCADA and in person when needed.
  • Conducts a variety of activities related to facilities, processes, equipment, and systems to ensure that all is operating within established parameters.
  • The ability to be on-call on a scheduled basis for after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary diploma in Water Resources Technology or Environmental Engineering Technology.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate and Wastewater Collection Certificate appropriate for the level of the facilities.
  • The successful candidate will work towards certification to the highest facility level as required by Ontario Regulation 129/04.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Maintain all the necessary certificates and licenses to perform the functions associated with the position.
  • Good mechanical, process, and technical aptitude.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics and chemistry to make calculations regarding chemicals and process.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Basic knowledge and skills around electrical, plumbing, millwright, and welding.
  • Ability to safely use a full range of hand and power tools;
  • Ability and dexterity to work in confined spaces, dirty and noisy environment
  • Physically fit to move material.
  • Self-motivated to work independent of other members and be able to organize tasks in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computerized systems such as Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
