PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member of our team to support the Manager, Safety and Operational Support.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Delivery of building/property operations and maintenance programs for facilities under PUC control in a safe, customer focused and efficient manner;
  • Support operation and maintenance of the company’s fleet, rolling stock and other equipment according to manufacturer, corporate and legislative requirements;
  • Support operation and maintenance of the company’s renewable generation facilities to optimize production while meeting all regulatory and company requirements;
  • Ensure health and safety compliance of staff and take corrective action, in conjunction with the representatives from Safety;
  • Assist Manager to develop and enhance the facility asset management system along with required operation and maintenance activities of all facilities equipment and properties under the Department’s control;
  • Develop and implement a system framework, policies and procedures, in conjunction with other managers, to ensure safe, efficient and reliable facility operations as well as interior and exterior building components;
  • Supervise operation and maintenance of fleet equipment under the Department’s control;
  • Supervise operation and maintenance of company owned or controlled renewable generation facilities.

Qualifications:

    • Must possess a journeyperson certificate of qualification in a related technical field or a post-secondary education in a related technical field with a minimum of five years related experience;
    • Must have at least three (3) years of direct supervisory experience in a supervisory role, including responsibility of organizing and directing work of others; experience supervising under the condition of a collective agreement in a unionized environment is an asset.
    • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s licence;
    • Must have experience in the building/construction and/or automotive industry;
    • Ability to read mechanical, electrical and control drawings: knowledge of building automation systems, life safety, electrical, and HVAC including boiler, chiller, cooling tower, pumps, motors, heat exchanger and air handling units;
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, with good working knowledge of other applications such as Access, Microsoft Project, Samsara, and Enterprise software systems (Cayenta) preferred;
    • Preferred experience in computerized maintenance management system’s (CMMS) and experience in a preventative maintenance management system;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills along with good team leadership skills, interpersonal and presentation skills;
    • Ability to plan, organize, assign, prioritize and schedule work effectively;
    • Strong working knowledge of Fleet and Facility Management systems inclusive of all related codes and regulations;
    • Ability to be on-call on a scheduled basis and to respond to after hour emergencies;
    • Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with employees and vendors/contractors.
