Job Description:

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As the Labourer, WDO, your duties will include:

  • Assist in the construction, operation and maintenance of the water distribution system; and
  • Perform daily operation, maintenance and care of equipment in an efficient and safe manner, complying with all appropriate laws, regulations and company policies;
  • Assist in the development of job plan, traffic control plans, and the development of safe work sites;
  • Communicate and interact with the public, government inspectors, contractors, and staff;
  • Maintain logs and records;
  • Participate in the connection of new installations to existing plant, tapping of watermains, disinfection of piping/fittings, cathodic protection, preparation and assembly of fittings; and
  • Participate in hydrant inspections, rebuilding and relocation, ensuring compliance with operations and maintenance procedures.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a Grade Twelve Diploma;
  • Obtain and hold a valid Water Distribution Operator-In-Training certification and work towards obtaining class 2 certification;
  • Hold and maintain a valid Ontario “DZ” driver’s licence;
  • Ability to read distribution maps, interpret and apply direction and distance coordinates for curb box and valve box locations;
  • Sound working knowledge of PUC water distribution systems, controls and related components;
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the maintenance and repair of equipment which requires a basic knowledge of mechanics associated with leverage, human performance, hand and mechanical tools;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to take initiative; and
  • Ability to respond in a reasonable time to after-hour callouts when required and includes a stand-by rotation.
