PUC Unveils Six New Student-Created Streetlight Box Wraps

Sault Ste. Marie, ON (June 8th, 2023): PUC Services Inc. (PUC) proudly announces that we have wrapped six streetlight traffic boxes in the downtown core. Art students from White Pines Collegiate & Vocational School and Superior Heights Collegiate & Vocational School provided the artwork used to cover the boxes.

The artwork was designed by 12 students from the two high schools. Students from three different art classes had five weeks to work on their designs as part of a school project. Once graded by their teachers, the artwork was submitted to PUC. After reviewing the art, some students were selected to attend our PUC boardroom to speak about their artwork, the inspiration behind it and a bit about themselves to a panel of judges.

"The PUC streetlight box wrap project was a great opportunity for our students to gain firsthand experience as artists working with a client, stated Sarah Bingham, Visual Arts Teacher at Superior Heights C. & V.S. “They had to work with specific guidelines, research the PUC’s values, create their artwork, and then pitch their ideas to PUC judges. I’m so proud of the hard work the students put into their designs. From the planning to the creation, they moved outside of their comfort zones and showed their creativity. It’s very exciting to see their artwork displayed in the community."

PUC gave the student complete creative control, and we only asked that they make sure their designs represent PUC, the services we offer, and the importance of safety.

We are beyond thrilled with the quality and creativity of the artwork. We are excited to display the artwork on the streetlight boxes in the downtown core. Local business owners have been asking for ways to address the graffiti on the streetlight boxes, and this project is a fantastic way to offer students the chance to have their artwork on display while providing the boxes with a beautiful touch-up.

PUC would like to thank Sarah Bingham’s grade 11/12 visual arts class at Superior Heights, Frank Calvano’s grade 9 visual arts class and Katrina Pierman’s grade 10 and 11 visual art classes at White Pines for participating in this project.
