Career Opportunity

PUC Services Inc. (PUC) operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply, treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, the supply of electricity, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

As the Temporary Labourer, WDO, your duties will include:

  • Assist in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the water distribution system.
  • Perform daily operation, maintenance, and care of equipment in an efficient and safe manner, complying with all appropriate laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist in the development of job plans, traffic control plans, and the development of safe work sites.
  • Communicate and interact with the public, government inspectors, contractors, and staff.
  • Maintain logs and records.
  • Participate  in the  connection  of new installations to  existing  plant, tapping  of  watermains, disinfection of piping/fittings, cathodic protection, preparation and assembly of fittings.
  • Participate  in  hydrant  inspections,  rebuilding,  and  relocation,  ensuring  compliance  with operations and maintenance procedures.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a Secondary Diploma.
  • Hold and maintain a valid Water Distribution Operator-In-Training certification is an asset.
  • Hold and maintain a valid Ontario “DZ” driver’s license.
  • Ability to read distribution maps, interpret and apply direction and distance coordinates for curb box and valve box locations.
  • Sound working knowledge of PUC water distribution systems, controls, and related components.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanics associated with leverage, human performance, hand, and mechanical tools.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to take initiative.
  • Ability to be on-call and respond in a reasonable time to after-hour callouts.
