NOTICE OF VACANCY

POLYPHASE METER TECHNICIAN

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including supply and delivery of electricity, drinking water, provision of telecommunications, energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

You are the ideal candidate if you possess:

• At minimum, a post-secondary diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent which is the combination of education and working experience gained by working in an electrical environment for 3 – 5 year, supplemented with a Municipal Electric Utilities (MEA) Meter Technician Training Certification.

• The candidate must successfully complete the Water Metering Installer Certification Program in addition to the MEA Polyphase Meter Technician Program.

• Sound working knowledge of electrical and water metering systems and related components.

• Strong working knowledge of related legislation, codes, standards and practices.

• A valid Ontario driver’s license and certifications as may be required.

• Good communication skills are essential and have been used both at the internal and external level to communicate technical knowledge in a tactful and persuasive manner.

• Ability to operate computerized systems.

• Ability to be on-call on a scheduled basis or to respond in a reasonable time to after-hours emergencies and call-outs.

Your duties will include:

• Work within a small group of equally qualified personnel under the general direction of a Lead Hand to perform various metering and customer service type activities.

• Promote the overall efficient, effective and safe deployment of services and equipment to ensure and to maintain accurate metering of customers’ consumption.

• Respond to customer concerns regarding electrical and water metering and billing with tact and courtesy.

• Provide technical guidance to contractors in regards to PUC requirements for meter installations.

• Occasional work in water metering will also be a requirement.

• As a result of working alone, you are responsible for your own safety and are physically capable of meeting the challenges of regular field assignments.
