HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

As a Summer Student Human Resources Assistant, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Business or Human Resources degree program, ideally in 3rd or 4th year
  • Previous HR experience is considered an asset, but related experience will be considered
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, and a highly developed ability to conduct research through the internet (including, but not limited to search engines and various Web 2.0 tools)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Self starting mentality, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Qualification Requirements

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You apply your written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, document findings, record data, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.)

• You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• You apply your experience using Microsoft Office product suite, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; email and Internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents

• You apply your knowledge and/or experience with human resources principles (HR) and practices to perform a variety of HR related activities such as data verification, preparing statistical reports, assisting with training, recruitment, interpreting directives and legislations etc.

Analytical and Organizational Skills

• You apply your discretion and sensitivity skills when working with confidential information

• You use the Internet and other sources to gather and aggregate data, analyze and input data findings and summarize information

• You apply your planning and organizational skills to collect, organize, review and verify information/data through review of files, reports, and other means

• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
